Week 14...Celebrating The Season

More time with friends and family is how I spent this week. With my teaching friends-my wolfpack- we celebrated our Christmas together at the newly opened Char Bar in Creekside. Being together is always a treat and trying the menu at the new location was a lot of fun. We had excellent service-thanks to Paige!

Eric and I also made a weekend trip to the farm. It was important to me that we get the star put out in my parents' yard. One of the Christmas traditions of Russell, that still hangs on in some neighborhoods, is a common decoration. Our neighborhood has had a lit star for as long as I can remember. Dad would always place it perfectly in the front yard to align with the other neighbors' stars along Culp Street. We had recently rewrapped the star with fresh silver garland and blue lights. My parents loved blue lights.

Our final "new" adventure was adding a swing at the farm. I have wanted to put up a swing for years and never did it. I've come to realize I have experienced this sentiment way too often in my life...wanting to do something and then not doing it. Now I've seen that when I do take action and complete the task or experience-it's typically easy, relatively painless, and fairly quick to achieve. This swing is certainly one of those instances. I got the swing for free from our neighborhood swap and shop. It's not in great shape, but it will be fine for the farm for now. I've always been drawn to this location. My mom told me that the bar and pole were there from when my Uncle Doyle would work on stock cars and engines. Over the years, the tree grew around the bar. Eric and I were able to get the chains even and hung the swing on this cold and windy day. It didn't matter that the weather was perfect, sitting together on the swing and watching the sunset over the pasture was!
